Gesher Yehuda Yeshiva was established to educate children with different learning styles within a Yeshiva setting. Our students are provided with the finest educational techniques to enable them to achieve a level of performance commensurate with their potential in all areas. Professionals assist children by minimizing distraction and re-training concentration. Positive reinforcement encourages proficiency and often re-entry into a typical school environment.
Brooklyn-based Gesher Yehuda Yeshiva educates children with learning differences in a comprehensive program. A dual curriculum of Judaic and General studies is tailored to provide students with appropriate instruction within a personalized and encouraging setting. Professionals identify and use students’ strengths to expand knowledge and confidence.
Age appropriate skills and Jewish heritage are emphasized. We are compliant with New York State academic requirements. Students develop self-esteem and self-advocacy, easing their adjustment towards conventional school and social settings. Gesher Yehuda Yeshiva is an educational environment where individuals can flourish.
"Any good school focuses on the basics,
e.g., reading, writing and math.
Gesher Yehuda does that and more.
We directly teach organizational skills and responsibility. We take good midot seriously.
Kindness to others is important.
Kindness to oneself, however, is also important.
Even with learning issues, students are taught
to be proud of themselves as well."
Dr. Mary Courtney, PhD.
Gesher Yehuda Yeshiva views each student as an individual whose interests and abilities motivate their desire to learn and propel program direction. In the classroom there is a low student to teacher ratio. Through a flexible and comprehensive interdisciplinary approach, we remediate weaknesses and draw upon our students’ strengths to devise learning strategies.
Our in-house staff of therapists include: Speech, Occupational and Behavioral professionals. In addition our psychologists, social workers and curriculum directors work with classroom teachers to provide clearly structured, multi-sensory experiences in all subject areas.
Both individual and small group instruction are ongoing to enhance and increase personal and inter-personal skills. By helping students learn how to learn through strategies that fit their unique learning styles, they grow both socially and academically. By employing an interdisciplinary approach in a nurturing environment, parents, students, teachers, specialists and administrators work together for the benefit of the child.
"One of the biggest compliments we hear is when a student describes how insecure they felt about themselves for struggling in a mainstream school environment in the past, and that our school not only helped him or her feel capable of success, we helped them discover what it is like to have self confidence, which is an invaluable asset."
