As a New York certified speech-language pathologist and a certified Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped, I use evidence-based practices to target the specific needs of each child. After working in several schools, including special education and general education, I believe that open communication with caregivers and other co-professionals is crucial to reaching the whole child. We connect together frequently to incorporate new strategies into our respective fields. By connecting emotionally with each child and providing positive and engaging sessions, I strive to create a happy and secure atmosphere during therapy.
Additionally, I integrate literacy-based therapy not only to target expressive and receptive language skills, but to give my students a love for reading and intellectual curiosity. I am professionally trained in the PROMPT method, which I use to remediate articulation deficits and help the students become intelligible and functional in all environments. Working on social skill techniques to support budding friendships, develop emotional management, and foster problem solving skills is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job.
At Gesher Yehuda Yeshiva, we work with children with learning differences — bright children who struggle in a mainstream setting. We offer small, structured learning environments designed to meet individual needs. We are an academic program with highly trained special education teachers and therapists. Since 1994, our alumni have gone on to college, careers, and successful lives. All students deserve the education that best fits their needs.
